Rev. Melvin J. Everson the seventh of 10 children was born in Abbeville, GA on September 24, 1957 to the late Northern and Willa B Everson. Rev. Everson received his formal education in Wilcox County graduating from Wilcox County High in 1975. Rev. Everson received his BS Degree in Criminology in 1983 from Albany State University. He is married to the former Ms. Geraldine McAdoo that he lovingly refers to as Gerri. They are the proud parents of one child Ricardo DeAndre Everson who is a graduate of the University of Georgia.
Rev. Everson is a twenty-three year retiree from the US Army/Reserve. He was elected to the City Council in Snellville in 2001 and his council peers elected him as Mayor Pro Tem 3 consecutive years. In 2004, Rev. Everson ran for the Georgia State House of Representative and lost. In 2005, the opportunity presented itself again and this time, Rev. Everson was elected.
Rev. Everson has served well in his community and his entire life has been one of giving back to the community. He is a chartered member and past president of the Snellville Optimist Club and has also served, Two Term President and Two Term Vice President of the South Gwinnett High School PTSA, Two Term President, Two Term Vice President, One Term Treasurer and currently President of the Lilburn Cooperative Ministry.
Rev. Everson, ordained as a Minister of the Gospel on May 21, 2006 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Richard B. Haynes, currently serves a Fellowship Cell Pastor for Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Lilburn, GA. Rev. Everson is the recipient of many community and political awards from the Gwinnett United Ebony Society, South Dekalb Republican Pioneer Award, The Gwinnett Black Republican Council Service Award, and Clayton County United Way Campaign Manager Service Award, Omega Si Phi Gwinnett Chapter 2005 Citizen of the year award and various medals and ribbons from the US Military. He is also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. chapter of Nu Mu Lambda in Decatur where he has served as chaplain.
